The activists of the Let's Pay 100 AMD movement have released a statement blaming a number of Armenian TV channels for distorting the facts and discrediting the movement. According to the statement sent to ArmInfo, it was for this reason that the activists prevented the journalists of Public Television, Armnews and Shant from attending the Public Council's hearings on transport problems that took place in Mashtots Park on July 31.
The statement says that the specified TV channels as well as the Armenia TV company consistently ignored the activity of the civil initiatives and movements and covered it only after a wide public response. But even in this case the coverage was biased and distorted the reality.
"Such work style discredits the journalists' profession and violates everyone's right to freedom of expression and freedom of information. We believe that the specified TV channels arrived at Mashtots Park only because Head of the Public Council Vazgen Manukyan was there. They were not interested in the process itself", says the statement. The authors of the statement also point out that the journalists can attend the public hearings but they should represent themselves, not the TV channels that ignore the public interests.
