Russia will seek to ensure that Azerbaijan and Armenia find a compromise and a mutually acceptable solution to the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev on Monday, RIA Novosti reports.
"I know this is a thorny issue for both Azerbaijan and Armenia. We will strive to achieve one thing. We will strive to ensure that Armenia and Azerbaijan find a compromise solution that is acceptable for both sides," Putin said, noting that the winners should be the people of both countries and that both states should feel that they have resolved this complicated problem for the future generations.
